BASICS Insights
Our BASICS Insights online workshops run throughout the year on a variety of topics relevant to those working in or interested in pre-hospital care, including students.
These workshops typically involve a 30-minute presentation, followed by a Q&A session.
The workshops are free to all BASICS members and available to non-members for £20, or £10 for student non-members.
Online workshops will be recorded. The recording may include participants’ display names, voices, images, chat contributions and questions, depending on how they participate. Understanding fatal knife injuries in young people
What really happens in the minutes and hours after a young person is stabbed?
This presentation explores the circumstances, injuries and timelines surrounding every young person who died following knife crime in England between 2019 and 2024. Drawing on unique national mortality data, we will examine background factors, what kills them and when death occurs.
For those arriving first on scene, the findings may challenge how we think about the critical window for saving a child’s life and where future opportunities for prehospital intervention lie.
Dr Stacey Webster is an Army doctor, PHEM registrar with Thames Valley Air Ambulance, and works in Emergency Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals. Her clinical and research interests centre on prehospital trauma care, major haemorrhage and time-critical conditions. She is interested in bringing together lessons from military and civilian medicine to improve care for the most critically injured patients, with a growing body of research, publications and international presentations in this field.
